Paula Hayes (Ohio State)

New York-based landscape designer and artist Paula Hayes works with plant life
and minerals to produce stunning terrariums as sculptures for gallery
environments.

HayesÕs work crafts industrial materialsÑsuch as hand-blown glass, silicone,
or cast acrylicÑinto organic shapes that she then fills with a rich variety of
plant life. These works deftly combine the intricate beauty and care required
of the plant life with innovative, willfully independent sculptural forms. Her
one-gallery exhibition at the Wexner Center will feature eight to ten pieces,
juxtaposing older works alongside new projects created specifically for this
show. In keeping with HayesÕs commitment to the caretaking of these living
sculptures, the plants will be tended by select Ohio State University students
during gallery hours.

Hayes is also designing a permanent outdoor garden installation adjacent to
the Wexner Center entrance in conjunction with the exhibition. The Wexner
Center Roof Garden features a variety of sedum with pond planters and grasses.
This unique commission is made possible by the generosity of The Trueman
Family and additional significant support from Ohio State's office of
Facilities Operations and Development.
